Dishub and Ojol Communities Partner to Ensure Traffic Order

The Jakarta Transportation Agency and online taxi-bike communities or locally called Ojol are strengthening their commitment to better traffic and parking management through collaboration and humane engagement.

We will adopt a persuasive and dialogue-driven approach

Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Budi Awaluddin stated that the issue involving online taxi-bike driver Sulis Agung Wibowo, which had recently drawn public attention, has been successfully resolved through constructive dialogue among all parties.

He shared that the driver had conveyed a message through him, calling for future collaboration between online taxi-bike communities, building management, and the Transportation Agency to facilitate dedicated parking spaces in office buildings and malls.

"We plan to coordinate this right away and host a meeting involving both the ojol community and operators to ensure a smooth implementation of the rules," he expressed, after a joint ceremony at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (6/22).

Nevertheless, illegal parking crackdowns will remain ongoing, with a focus on humane and persuasive engagement as directed by the Governor. This approach seeks to maintain order while ensuring that community guidance remains a top priority.

“We will adopt a persuasive and dialogue-driven approach when conducting enforcement actions on the ground,” he added.

Budi also emphasized that vehicles impounded by officers can be reclaimed free of charge, with all fines waived. Instead, owners are only asked to provide a letter of commitment, pledging their compliance in the future.

"Mr. Sulis retrieved his motorbike on that very same day at no cost, and he has provided a written statement pledging not to repeat the violation,” he continued.

In the future, the Transportation Agency intends to intensify its road safety awareness programs in partnership with the ride-hailing driver communities.

"This program will focus on raising awareness about traffic rules, unauthorized parking, and the dangers of counter-flow driving to ensure the safety of all road users,” he explained.

At the same time, the spokesperson for the online taxi-bike community, Ayah Beno, expressed his appreciation for the Jakarta government’s cooperative approach. He called upon all online drivers to become role models for safety and order on the streets.

"It is essential that we carry complete documentation, including our licenses and vehicle registration certificates. Being ride-hailing drivers doesn't mean we are above the law or exempt from citations. Our top priority must always be safe driving practices,” he explained.

He also reminded everyone of the need for an objective and responsible mindset regarding social media trends. He assessed, any issue should be viewed in its entirety to avoid misconceptions or incitement.

“We're committed to collaborating and turning this situation into a lesson for us all. Regarding parking at malls, we acknowledge that the trek from basement lots to the pick-up area is often long, which tempts many drivers to park out front for convenience. Nonetheless, it remains a breach of the law. Let’s be better road users and follow the rules,” he urged.
